LA Times Talks Bold, Standout Scents!

TS1103DiorPoison.jpgThe TalkingShopping team always loves a good tour guide when it comes to the world of fragrances and today, the LA Times was just that!  Navigating us through ten uber-bold, classic, vintage scents that have been around since before we were born and their more modern counterparts, the Times describes each in detail!  Since we absolutely loath walking into our local Sephora or department store and spritzing away until we feel nauseas, the Times descriptions are certainly saving our nose some torture.  All of the scents included are meant to make a statement, so if you're looking for something light and fruity, this list may not be for you!  Wallflowers beware!

Left: Dior's Poison was released in 1985 with mixed reviews (kind of a love it or hate it situation). The paper describes the updated version, Pure Poison ($68 to $88 at Dillard's) as, "'80s excess, à la "Wall Street" -- pure greedy genius."  Hmmm, sounds intriguing!

Right: A newcomer, Viva la Juicy ($65 to $85 at Sephora) "blends floral and fruit notes with a base of amber, sandalwood and tasty caramel, vanilla and praline."  They even noted that when they spritzed this scent on, a friend said, "I could eat your wrist off."  Now that's a powerful reaction!

Left: Yves Saint Laurent's Opium ($106 at Sephora) scent debuted in 1977 and sounds like the most aggressive scent of the bunch!  The description from the Times says it like this: "smells like cinnamon and black pepper floating in a pool of rose petals, is as aggressive as a samurai warrior but as slinky as a Halston jumpsuit."
